The Supreme Court(SC) of India on Tuesday 20 Feb 2018 gave the deadline for Final National Register of Citizens (NRC) in Assam and directed the Government to complete the whole process by 30 June 2018.
The Court has given direction to come out with for the Second/Complete Draft Result by 30 June 2018.
After disposal of claims and objections, the final draft should be prepared (Shall let you know in due course of time)
After the Statement on 27 March 2018, the Apex Court of India directed NRC Assam to complete the NRC Updation work by 30 June 2018. So, the expected date for NRC 2nd List is 30 June. In a Statement, NRC State Co-Ordinator Prateek Hajela said that would be possible to meet Supreme Court Guideline to publish Complete Draft NRC on time.
Currently, NRC is cross verifying the manual family tree form to identify the illegal migrants in the State.
Earlier, The Apex Court has said the verification process of remaining 1.39 crore people should continue without any interference.
NRC Update in Assam will continue Even in the Panchayat Elections:
There is also upcoming Panchayat elections and local body elections in Assam, which are scheduled to be held in the month of March & April will be conducted by the State government and the State Election Commission. There must not be the cause of interference with both elections, and NRC update work should be continued with the full deployment. The State Election Commission and the State government would take all the necessary action for holding these elections, said the Bench. Also a Bench, justices Ranjan Gogoi and R.F Nariman would monitor the progress of the NRC Update in Assam after 30 days. Anyways Panchayat & local body was not held in the month of March.
Bench Says, “Our Business is to Make Impossible Possible”
When Attorney General K.K. Venugopal on behalf of Assam told the Bench that it was not “physically possible” to complete the work by May 31, then the Court says, Our Mission is to make Impossible to Possible.
“Mr. Attorney General, what everybody thought was a big joke, has been turned into a reality. Our business is to make impossible possible, and we will do it. We are monitoring it for the last four years, and we know this,” the bench said.
Earlier on 20 Nov 2017, the Court said that on December 31st, 2017 the complete draft NRC should be updated. That’s’ why Assam Government has published the first part of its draft list in the midnight of 31 Dec 2017 but with 1.9 Core citizens as a legal. The remaining part is being verified because yet has to publish another draft in full list of NRC.
The names of the persons whose names don’t appear in the Draft Updated NRC would be scrutinized and included in the next subsequent draft list if found eligible.
The NRC of 1951 is being updated in accordance with the tripartite agreement among the State and Central governments and the influential All Assam Students Union (AASU), which was arrived at in 2005 to implement the 1985 Assam Accord.
31st May: Expected date for Complete Verification.
30th June: Expected date to Publish Complete Draft NRC.
